100 Greatest Discoveries (English original title 100 Greatest Discoveries ) is a documentary series of the US broadcaster The Science Channel , an offshoot of Discovery Channel .

The series consists of nine episodes of approx. 46 minutes each: In the first eight episodes, 100 important discoveries from the fields of evolution , geology , medicine , physics , astronomy , chemistry , genetics and biology are presented and partly re-enacted by actors, the last, top Ten , summarizes the ten most important discoveries selected by viewers. The series is hosted by Bill Nye , who became known in the USA as Bill Nye the Science Guy in the Emmy- winning television series of the same name .

It was first broadcast in the USA on December 8, 2004 on The Science Channel and as an HD version on Discovery HD Theater . In 2005 an edition on 9 DVDs followed and later a complete edition on 5 DVDs.

The series premiered on German pay television in 2008 on the Discovery Geschichte channel.
