September 14 (newspaper)
September 14th is the name of a Faroese newspaper that appeared from 1947 to 1994. The paper was published several times a week and was also the party newspaper of Tjóðveldisflokkurin . The name of the newspaper was later spelled out in full as Fjúrtandi September towards the end .
history
The name of the paper goes back to the referendum of September 14, 1946 , in which a relative majority of the population in the Faroe Islands voted for the separation from Denmark and the independence of the islands.
The first single-page edition of the newspaper appeared on June 3, 1947. The frequency of publication varied over the years from initially once a week to five times a week at the best of times. The paper appeared twice a week for longer periods of time. The first editor-in-chief was Dánjal Pauli Danielsen from June 1947 to April 1949 .
After the law on the autonomy of the Faroe Islands (Heimastýrislógin) came into force on March 31, 1948, the left-wing, separatist Tjóðveldisflokkurin was founded shortly thereafter in May 1948. One of its founders was Dánjal Pauli Danielsen and the “14. September ”(also known as“ Fjúrtandi ”for short) became the mouthpiece of the new party.
The "14. September ”, like other Faroese newspapers, got into trouble during the severe financial and economic crisis in the early 1990s and ceased publication in September 1994.
