Dánjal Pauli Danielsen (born March 3, 1913 in Miðvágur , Faroe Islands ; † March 28, 1991 ) was a Faroese lawyer , journalist , writer and politician of the socialist and separatist party Tjóðveldisflokkurin . His name is often shortened to DP Danielsen .

Profession and Politics

After attending elementary school in his hometown, he went for the higher education of Birkerød in Denmark and was there in 1933, the school-leaving examination (studentsprógv) . He then studied law in Copenhagen and graduated in 1945 with the Danish candidate examination as cand. Jur. from.

A little later he went back to the Faroe Islands and established himself as a lawyer. From June 1947 to April 1949 he was editor-in-chief of the newly founded newspaper " 14 September ", was one of the founders of the left-wing and separatist party Tjóðveldisflokkurin in 1948 and sat from 1950 to 1958 together with Hanus við Høgadalsá as a member of this party in the Faroese Parliament (Løgting). From 1971 to 1982 he also worked as an editor for the socialist magazine "Roðin" (The Blush) in Tórshavn . In 1990 he ran again for Løgting, this time for Sosialistiski Loysingarflokkurin , but without success.

As a writer, he wrote specialist books on various subjects and wrote a historical novel about the place Hvítanes and a travelogue about Iceland .

In 1990 he received the Faroese Literature Prize for his historical novel "Hvørt við sínar náðir" about the settlement of the town of Hvítanes, founded in 1837 .

Dánjal Pauli Danielsen was born in Miðvágur in 1913 as the son of Dagmar (née Joensen) and Sørin Danielsen. He was married to Ninni, geb. Niclasen, from Sørvágur .
