A commercial building is located at 147 Buchanan Street in the Scottish city ​​of Glasgow . In 1970, the building was included as a single monument in the Scottish monument lists, initially in category B. The upgrade to the highest monument category A took place in 1988.

history

The building was built between 1839 and 1842 to a design by David and James Hamilton . Worked in the planning John Thomas Rochead and John Baird with who worked at that time as an assistant in the architectural firm. In 1874, John Honeyman planned to redesign the interior. A wing was also added, but it has since been broken off again. Honeyman's work was £ 14,082. The architecture firm Campbell & Hislop was responsible for the expansion in 1912 .

It is the corner house at the junction of St Vincent Street and Buchanan Street , a shopping street in the center of Glasgow. The Glasgow Stock Exchange is on the right and 30 St Vincent Place is opposite on Buchanan Street . The three-story building is designed in the Italianate style . The facades along both streets are five axes wide. Corner projections emerge slightly along Buchanan Street . The central entrance is designed with a portico with Corinthian columns. The entrance portal closes with an arched window . On the ground floor, the flanking windows are also designed with round arches. On the upper floors, cornices suspend the elongated windows. At the risalits they are coupled to form triplet windows. On the first floor there are balconies mounted on ornamented consoles . A cornice runs around corbels.
