The Glasgow Stock Exchange is a former stock exchange trading venue in the Scottish city ​​of Glasgow . The Glasgow Stock Exchange has since been taken over by the London Stock Exchange .

In 1970 the building was included as an individual monument in the Scottish monument lists in the highest monument category A.

history

The building was built between 1875 and 1877 to a design by Scottish architect John Burnet . The expansion at St George's Place (now Nelson Mandela Place ) was entrusted to John James Burnet , who also planned the expansion in 1904. The building was redesigned around 1910 and in the 1950s. In 1968, with the exception of the facade, the building was demolished and rebuilt.

It is the corner house between Nelson Mandela Place and Buchanan Street , a shopping street in the center of Glasgow. Opposite is St George's Tron Church and the Royal Faculty of Procurators in Glasgow . 147 Buchanan Street is on the right along Buchanan Street and 30 St Vincent Place is opposite .

The four-storey building is designed in the style of Venetian neo-Gothic . The building is four axes along Buchanan Street and nine axes along Nelson Mandela Place. At ground level, wide arcades with pointed arches with round sculptured plaques in the spandrels run along the facade. The twin windows in the tympana have columns as central posts. A wide frieze adorns the facade above the pointed arches . The ogival triple windows on the second floor are decorated with ornamented posts. Three statues are arranged at window height. A parapet on consoles completes the facade. The slate roofs are designed with dormer windows.
