15 Again -

15 Again is the third studio album by Cassius . It was released on September 11, 2006.

History of origin

After the album Au Rêve from 2002, Zdar and Boom Bass went to a recording studio in Ibiza in October 2005 . A three-week session took place there. You should not work on any piece for more than eight hours. The album was completed within four weeks between December 2005 and January 2006 in the PLUSXXX studios in Paris . The single Toop Toop was released in France in spring 2006. Cassius hired the American R&B singer and producer Pharrell Williams for the title Eye Water . Matthieu Chedid can be heard as guitarist on several songs . Some tracks were sung by singer Gladys Gambie . Other guests were Sébastien Tellier , Étienne de Crécy and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo .

Music genre

The album bears the title on the one hand because the Duo Cassius was founded in 1990 and the studio work on this album began after its 15th anniversary. However, it is also a nod to the concept of the album: a journey back to the duo's musical roots. Accordingly, the album picks up on some of the usual house music trends, including acid house , Detroit techno , Eurodance and the French house pop style, which draws its inspiration from electro punk , synthpop, depeche-mode , and electro soul in the style of Prince , funk , techno and post-punk . The music is reminiscent of their predecessor bands La Funk Mob and Motorbass as well as their compatriots Air and Daft Punk and is mostly cheerful and club-friendly.

success

Cassius' album 15 Again reached number 44 in the French charts and stayed in the top 100 for 14 weeks. The only single Toop Toop was released on August 11, 2006 and reached number 39 in the French charts and number 76 in the Swiss charts.

Reviews

Karl Fluch judges the album in the Standard :

“Cassius [...] have [...] a rare instinct for the dosage of their ingredients. On the one hand. On the other hand - and that counts for pieces that are still suitable for a club, of course - Cassius have a flair for funk, which also shines through in pieces that, on the surface, could do without it. For example in Toop Toop, the opener here. This could also come from a guitar band from New York wearing stretch pants: Phillipe Zdar himself raises his voice to short, slick guitar riffs and fidgety but deep rhythms - a novelty. Before a Cassius song runs the risk of thinning out, the two add deep bass and shifted beats. "
