1942 is an arcade game that was developed by the Japanese game manufacturer Capcom in 1984 and later ported to all major home computers and consoles . It's a vertically scrolling shoot 'em up in which the player controls a Lockheed P-38 during World War II. With the successors, 2 players can play in co-op mode at the same time.

Game description

During the Pacific War , the Japanese aircraft squadron must be destroyed in 32 game levels . Various weapons are available as power-ups in the further course. In addition, loops can be flown to avoid enemy fire. After each level there is an intermediate landing on an aircraft carrier and the hit rate is displayed.

The well-known music of the C64 version comes from Mark Cooksey , whereby the melody was borrowed from the theme of the film Kampfgeschwader 633 composed by Ron Goodwin .
