history

The Western Union Telegraph Building was previously on the site of today's skyscraper

The skyscraper, which was named after its address at 195 Broadway, is located in New York's Financial District on Manhattan near St. Paul's Chapel and the World Trade Center site . The headquarters of the Western Union had already been located on the property . The old building , built in 1875, is the first modern skyscraper in New York at 70 meters and was the tallest in the world at the time . After the demolition, the current building was built between 1912 and 1916 in the neoclassical style. The architect was William Welles Bosworth .

In 1992 the Millennium Hilton was built directly on the west side of the building , with its dark glass facade contrasting with the light granite facade of the AT&T Building.

In 2005 the skyscraper was completely renovated and on July 25, 2006 it was listed as a New York City Landmark.
