description

The two-story apartment building is on North High Street near the Old Port of Portsoy . Diagonally opposite is the also listed residential building 16-20 North High Street . The building was erected during the 1720s. The north wing was added later, resulting in today's L-shaped floor plan.

Its east-facing main facade along the narrow North High Street is six axes wide. It is plastered with Harl , with natural stone surrounds. Finely ground red stone from the surrounding area was brought into the Harl, from which the deep red color results. Numerous buildings in Portsoy were once plastered in this way, but only a few examples have survived.

The two-axis-wide central projection ends with a tail gable with a chimney at the gable end. A round arched window with a keystone is embedded in the gable . At the foot of the risalit there is a round arched gate, while the entrance doors, one of which has a plain window , flank the risalit. With the exception of the window on the right-hand axis, which has been expanded to become a twin window, the 15-part lattice windows are arranged symmetrically. On the other hand, mostly smaller 12-part lattice windows are embedded along the back of the building. The roofs are covered with slate, with the ridge ending with potted caps.
