Bayreuth premiere casts of the Rheingold

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Rheingold was the very first performance in the then new Bayreuth Festival Hall on August 13, 1876

The Bayreuth premiere cast of the Rheingold list the participants in the new productions of Richard Wagner's music drama Das Rheingold , the evening before the tetralogy Der Ring des Nibelungen , including the Bayreuth premiere, which took place on August 13, 1876 at the first Bayreuth Festival .

To the performance history

The first performance of the Rheingold took place on September 22, 1869 in Munich , at the express order of King Ludwig II of Bavaria . Wagner demonstratively stayed away from the performance. The King did not even invite Wagner to rehearse the Valkyrie the following year, although this time he pleaded for it.

The Rheingold is - next to the Walküre - the most frequently performed section of the tetralogy, on the one hand because of its shortness of just over two hours, on the other hand because ring projects are repeatedly canceled after the previous evening and the first evening - such as the Wiener Ring production of 1981 Filippo Sanjust , the Basel project by Hans Hollmann or in 2005 the Ring project by Francesca Zambello at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires.
