Gustav Neidlinger
Gustav Neidlinger (born March 21, 1910 in Mainz , † December 26, 1991 in Bad Ems ) was a German opera singer ( bass baritone ).
Life
The role of Alberich in the Ring of the Nibelung by Richard Wagner (Alberich is the "Nibelung" mentioned in the title of the tetralogy ) is considered a prime role by Neidlinger. He has sung this part many times on stage and on record . His interpretations of the title role in The Flying Dutchman , of Klingsor in Parsifal , Pizarro in Fidelio and Iago in Otello have a similar reputation in the opera scene.
In addition to "demonic" roles and rogue roles, in which Neidlinger was very popular, he also appeared in completely different roles. Like the inflated, involuntarily comical mayor van Bett in Lortzings Zar und Zimmermann , his age-wise Hans Sachs in the Meistersingern , the title role in Verdi's Falstaff or Colonel Ollendorf in Millöcker's Der Bettelstudent (“Oh, I just kissed her on the shoulder ... ").
He received his training as a singer at the Conservatory Frankfurt am Main , in 1931 he made his debut at the Stadttheater Mainz , where he worked until 1934. He worked at the Hamburg State Opera from 1935 to 1950. From 1950 he was a member of the ensemble of the Stuttgart State Opera , since 1977 honorary member. From 1956 he was also a member of the Vienna State Opera . He has appeared on all the leading opera stages, including Paris , Milan , London , Edinburgh and New York . He played fifteen seasons at the Bayreuth Festival , as Alberich, as well as Telramund ( Lohengrin ), Kurwenal ( Tristan and Isolde ) and Klingsor (Parsifal), in the Meistersinger he gave the shoemaker-poet Hans Sachs and the master baker Kothner, but also took the mini role of the night watchman. He also worked as a song and oratorio singer.
His grave is in the Stuttgart-Sillenbuch cemetery.
