Martin Kremer

Martin Kremer (born March 23, 1898 in Geisenheim ; † February 9, 1971 in Prien am Chiemsee ) was a German opera singer ( tenor ).

Life

Martin Kremer studied with W. Fuhr in Wiesbaden and Giuseppe Borgatti in Milan . Martin Kremer was a valued concert and oratorio singer (e.g. as the evangelist in the Passions of Johann Sebastian Bach ) and later worked as an opera singer and director.

In 1924 he made his debut at the Kassel State Theater . From there he moved to the Wiesbaden State Theater in 1927 and to the Dresden State Opera in 1929 . Here he participated in various world premieres: in July 1933 as Matteo in Arabella by Richard Strauss and Hugo von Hofmannsthal , in June 1935 as Henry in Die Schweigsame Frau von Strauss and Stefan Zweig, and in October 1938 as Leukippos in Daphne von Strauss and Joseph Gregor . Kremer's engagement in Dresden lasted until 1940. In 1938 and 1939 he was seen at the Bayreuth Festival as a shepherd in the Titjen production of Tristan and Isolde .

1940–1943 he worked at the Theater des Volkes in Berlin; 1941–1944 he also had guest engagements at the Deutsches Theater Oslo . At the Bayreuth Festival, he worked as David ( Meistersinger ) and Froh ( Rheingold ) from 1933–1938 .

In 1948 Martin Kremer returned to the Wiesbaden State Opera. As Manrico in the troubadour , he left the big stage in 1956; He performed at smaller German theaters until 1960.

He also became known early on through the record, including opera recordings by the companies Orchestrola (1930) and HMV-Electrola (as David in the first act of Meistersinger under Karl Böhm ). He sang in some operetta recordings with Maria Elsner .

Martin Kremer was buried in the Reit im Winkl cemetery.
