Josef Rixner

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Josef Rixner (* 1. May 1902 in Munich , † 25. June 1973 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen ) was a German composer and conductor , whose works today in the blowing and popular music are present.

Life

Rixner, who was born in Munich's artists' quarter Schwabing , attended elementary and middle school and received piano and violin lessons . As a composer, he was largely self-taught . From 1919 he worked as a violinist , violist and pianist in various orchestras before moving to Berlin in 1932, encouraged by the success of his composition Bagatelle . There he worked as a pianist and conductor, but above all as a freelance composer.

He wrote music for operettas, revues and dance theater. His works have been performed on the radio and in Berlin revue theaters such as the Admiralspalast and the Deutschlandhalle built in 1936 . Many of them also found their way onto the record. Here they were interpreted in recordings with the salon orchestra of the violinist Barnabás von Géczy . His Ouverture Bagatelle , his Tango Blauer Himmel (both 1936) and his Suite Frohes Wochenend ' (1940) with the Spanish March , a brisk Paso Doble, became famous . His tango ballad Night Guitars (1940) with the text by Willy Dehmel was also a hit .

When the air raids on Berlin increased in the Second World War , he returned to his Bavarian homeland in 1944. On May 1, 1952, he celebrated his 50th birthday there. Until his death, Rixner lived in Garmisch-Partenkirchen at Brauhausstrasse 19. Rixner was buried in the Garmisch cemetery in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

His works, which were published and played in Germany even after the war, are among the standard works of upscale popular music . They have been arranged for brass music as well as for various other ensembles such as accordion or mandolin orchestras. They also found their way into the media. So functioned in the 1950s his Feierabend Polka in HR as a theme song for the radio series family Hesselbach . The Spanish March from his suite Happy Weekend ' often loosened up the sports programs of the Bavarian Broadcasting Corporation moderated by Josef Kirmaier .

Josef Rixner should not be confused with his older namesake, who was also a composer and was born in Ellingen on April 14, 1825, the horn player at the Royal Bavarian Jäger Battalion "König" , Joseph Rixner, who died on March 7, 1913 in Munich. Its Gendarmerie-March op. 90 Landjägermarsch is still known and loved today.
