Rachel Yakar

Rachel Yakar (born March 3, 1938 in Lyon ) is a French opera singer ( soprano ) and vocal teacher. She is the patron of the Leipzig Chamber Opera .

Life

After training as a costume and fashion designer, Rachel Yakar studied at the Conservatoire de Paris , where she won several prizes. She received further lessons from Germaine Lubin and Francesco Carrino (1899–1985).

In 1963 she made her debut at the Opéra national du Rhin in Strasbourg and from 1964 onwards she was a member of the Düsseldorf Opera House for more than 25 years .

Rachel Yakar first appeared at the Bavarian State Opera in 1974, at the Bayreuth Festival in 1975 and 1976 she sang Freia in Wagner's Das Rheingold , one of the magical girls in Parsifal and Gerhilde in Valkyrie .

She has also sung at festivals in Aix-en-Provence , Glyndebourne (Marschallin in Strauss' Rosenkavalier ) , in Edinburgh , in Salzburg and at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London .

In addition to her operatic career, Rachel Yakar also sang in concerts, where she performed with Gustav Leonhardt , Nikolaus Harnoncourt , Pierre Boulez , Daniel Barenboim , Alberto Erede , James Levine , Michel Corboz and Sir Charles Mackerras .

Rachel Yakar took her stage farewell in 1993 and then taught at the Paris Conservatory. She is married to the tenor Michel Lecocq .
