Pietari Inkinen

Pietari Inkinen (born April 29, 1980 in Kouvola , Finland ) is a Finnish violinist , bandmaster and conductor .

Life

Pietari Inkinen studied at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki and violin with Zakhar Bron at the Cologne University of Music . He graduated from the Sibelius Academy in 2003 in violin and in 2005 in conducting .

After performing with many international orchestras, he was artistic director of the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra from 2008 to 2016 . In addition, he became guest conductor of the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra in 2009 . From 2014/15 to 2019 Pietari Inkinen was chief conductor of the Ludwigsburg Palace Festival . In his first season he performed with the festival orchestra, among others, highly acclaimed interpretations of Jean Sibelius ' Kullervo , Igor Stravinsky's Le sacre du printemps and Dmitri Shostakovich's 5th Symphony . Since 2015 he has been chief conductor of the Prague Symphony Orchestra , and since 2016 chief conductor of the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra. In addition, the Deutsche Radio Philharmonie Saarbrücken Kaiserslautern appointed him chief conductor from 2017. In summer 2020 Inkinen should have conducted the new production of Wagner's Ring des Nibelungen at the Bayreuth Festival ; however, the festival was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic .

Inkinen plays a violin made by Carlo Bergonzi in 1732.

With the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra and the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra , Inkinen has recorded works by Einojuhani Rautavaara and the Violin Concerto by Johannes Brahms for Naxos . By 2012, six CDs with works by Jean Sibelius have been released, including all numbered symphonies.

He was invited to lead the Ring des Nibelungen at the Bayreuth Festival in 2020 . The young director Valentin Schwarz was to direct the film . Due to COVID-19 , production had to be postponed, presumably to the year 2022.
