Eberhard Friedrich
Eberhard Friedrich (* 1958 in Darmstadt ) is a German choir director .
Life
Friedrich studied music, conducting and choral conducting with Helmuth Rilling at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts ; from 1986 he was engaged at the theater of the city of Koblenz and from 1991 at the Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden .
From 1998 to 2013 he directed the choir of the State Opera Unter den Linden in Berlin , after which he moved to the Hamburg State Opera .
During his work in Wiesbaden in the early 1990s, he sought an assistant at the Bayreuth Festival . In 1993 he became assistant to Norbert Balatsch and the following year he became deputy choir director, together with Milan Malý .
Friedrich has been leading the Bayreuth Festival choir since 2000; Because of the concealed orchestra pit in the Bayreuth Festspielhaus , he conducts the performances with his assistants from the sides of the stage with flashlights. During this time, the only boos intended for him by the notoriously critical audience are said to have been due to a mix-up with the director Claus Guth .
He was also guest conductor at the International Bach Academy Stuttgart and worked with the Prague Philharmonic Choir , the Bavarian Radio Choir , the NDR Choir and the RIAS Chamber Choir .
Friedrich is married and has two daughters.
