Filippo Sanjust (born September 9, 1925 , † September 29, 1992 ) was an Italian director, set and costume designer .

One of his most important works is the setting for the world premiere of Hans Werner Henze's opera Die Bassariden at the Salzburg Festival in 1966 under the direction of Christoph von Dohnányi in a production by Gustav Rudolf Sellner . His last work in Salzburg was for Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Die Entführung aus dem Serail (1980/81 under Lorin Maazel ).

At the Vienna State Opera , Sanjust has staged Ariadne auf Naxos by Richard Strauss under the direction of Karl Böhm (1976) and Giuseppe Verdi's Falstaff under Georg Solti (1980). However, his Ring des Nibelungen met with such great rejection that only the first two parts ( Das Rheingold and Die Walküre , 1981, musical direction by Zubin Mehta ) were staged. His last production in Vienna was Amilcare Ponchielli's La Gioconda (1986, musical director Ádám Fischer ).

Sanjust worked on many other important stages, such as the Deutsche Oper Berlin and the Bavarian State Opera in Munich.

In addition to his work as a costume designer, Sanjust also worked as a screenwriter for around ten films.
