Robert Burg

Robert Burg , actually Robert Bartl (born March 29, 1890 in Prague , † February 9, 1946 in Radebeul ) was a German opera singer ( baritone ) and chamber singer .

Life

Robert Burg grew up in Prague as the son of a pianist in a musical family . While studying mathematics there, he took singing lessons from the baritone Hans Pokorny . During his studies in 1908 he became a member of the equal fraternity Saxonia Prague ( Red Saxonia ).

In 1914 he gave his first role in Gounod's Faust (Margarethe) in Aussig . After further roles at the Deutsches Theater in Prague , a short engagement at the Stadttheater Augsburg followed in 1915 , which was followed by a lifelong commitment to the Dresden Court Opera after one season .

In the 1920s, Burg contributed to the Verdi Renaissance brought about by Fritz Busch at the Semper Opera House .

Between 1933 and 1942 the castle sang at the Bayreuth Festival , among others, the Alberich in the Ring cycle . He has made guest appearances in Berlin and Munich as well as in Amsterdam, Budapest, Prague, Vienna and Zurich, and he has also given recitals in Saxon cities.

After the end of the Second World War , Robert Burg gave concerts again in Dresden and the surrounding area in July 1945. On the eve of his 32-year stage anniversary, Burg died in his artist's dressing room following a recital in Radebeul .
