Birgit Remmert

Birgit Remmert (* 1966 in Braunschweig ) is a German opera , oratorio and concert singer in the mezzo-soprano / alto range .

Life

Birgit Remmert received her first singing lessons at the age of 17 in her hometown of Braunschweig. After graduating from high school, she began studying at the Detmold University of Music with Professor Helmut Kretschmar . During her studies, she won prizes in a number of well-known international music competitions.

Birgit Remmert was a permanent member of the ensemble at the Zurich Opera House from 1992 to 1998 , where she acquired many roles in her field (including Farnace / Mitridate, re di Ponto , Suzuki / Madama Butterfly , Zita / Gianni Schicchi , Ulrica / Un ballo in maschera , Mrs. Quickly / Falstaff , Dalila / Samson et Dalila , Orlofski / Die Fledermaus ).

The 2007/2008 season took her as Juno in a new production by Semele to the Zurich Opera House, as Néris ( Médée ) to the Theater an der Wien and again as Gaea to the Nederlandse Opera in Amsterdam. In December 2009 Birgit Remmert made her debut with great success as a wet nurse in Richard Strauss' Die Frau ohne Schatten in a new production by David Pountney at the Zurich Opera House under the direction of Franz Welser-Möst. Her concert activities take up a large space in Birgit Remmert's schedule. Numerous guest performances and recitals have taken her across Europe, to Australia, Japan and the USA. She could be heard on the concert podium with the Missa Solemnis on the occasion of the festive consecration of the rebuilt Frauenkirche in Dresden. She also gave concerts a. a. in Vienna, Berlin, New York, Sapporo, Tokyo, Sydney, Perth, Melbourne, Milan, Lisbon, Madrid, Monte Carlo, Brussels, Pittsburgh, Rome, Cleveland and Washington.

The singer worked a. a. with Claudio Abbado , Vladimir Ashkenazy , Gary Bertini , Semyon Bychkov, Riccardo Chailly, William Christie , Carlo Maria Giulini , Ádám Fischer , Iván Fischer , Bernard Haitink , Nikolaus Harnoncourt , Philippe Herrweghe, Fabio Luisi , Lorin Maazel, Kurt Mazur, Kent Nagano, Yannick Nézet-Séguin , Krysztof Penderecki, Sir Simon Rattle , Wolfgang Sawallisch , Giuseppe Sinopoli , Christian Thielemann , Franz Welser-Möst, Edo de Waart and David Zinman and with orchestras such as the Berlin and Vienna Philharmonic , Philadelphia Orchestra , Cleveland Orchestra , London Symphony Orchestra and the London Philharmonic Orchestra .
