Wiebke Lehmkuhl (* 1983 in Oldenburg ) is a German opera singer with an alto voice .

life and work

Lehmkuhl received her vocal training from Ulla Groenewold and Hanna Schwarz at the University of Music and Theater in Hamburg and graduated with honors.

Opera

After guest engagements at the Kiel Opera House and at the Hamburg and Hanover State Operas, Lehmkuhl took on her first permanent engagement at the Zurich Opera House in the 2008/2009 season - while she was still studying - where she was the 3rd solo part in Schönberg's Moses and Aron , as a voice from above in Wagner's Parsifal and as La voix de la mère in Offenbach's Les Contes d'Hoffmann . But she also sang and played Erda (in Rheingold ), Annina (in Rosenkavalier ) and the Third Lady (in Magic Flute ). As the Third Lady, she also made a guest appearance at the Mozart Week in Salzburg under René Jacobs in 2011 , made her debut at the Salzburg Festival in 2012 under the direction of Nikolaus Harnoncourt and gave this role again in Paris in 2014.

In 2013 Lehmkuhl returned to Salzburg for a concert performance of Walter Braunfels ' Jeanne d'Arc - Scenes from the Life of Saint Johanna , and in 2014 took over Annina in a highly acclaimed Rosenkavalier production by Harry Kupfer with Franz Welser-Möst at the podium. Further engagements took her to the Opéra de la Bastille in Paris and to the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, where she performed the First Norn in Götterdämmerung under Kent Nagano, with the Ring des Nibelungen , directed by Günter Krämer and the musical direction of Philippe Jordan the Floßhilde sang. The 2013/14 season took Wiebke Lehmkuhl again to the Opéra Bastille and the Ré Majeure Festival , where she made her role debut as Gluck's Orfeo under Marc Minkowski . In 2015 she returned to Salzburg as Annina. In 2016 she made her debut at the Bayreuth Festival as the voice from on high; there followed appearances as Magdalene in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg (2017 to 2019).

Lehmkuhl has made guest appearances at the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival , Klassik am See , the Lucerne Festival and the La folle journée festival in Nantes, as well as at the Wiener Musikverein , the NDR Hannover , the Tonhalle Orchestra in Zurich, the Gewandhaus zu Leipzig , the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra , as well as in Bilbao, Tokyo and Shanghai. She worked with conductors such as Philippe Jordan , Thomas Hengelbrock , Daniele Gatti , Marc Minkowski , Hans-Christoph Rademann , Reinhard Goebel , Frans Brüggen , Hermann Max , Andreas Spering , Ottavio Dantone , Riccardo Chailly and Kent Nagano .

Her concert repertoire includes the alto solos in Bach's Christmas Oratorio , Mozart's Requiem and Beethoven's Ninth . In December 2013 she made her debut with the Berliner Philharmoniker in Schumann's Scenes from Goethe's Faust under Daniel Harding , who then invited her to sing Geneviève in concert performances of Pelléas et Mélisande with the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra in Stockholm and Cologne in March 2015 .
