Hermann Max
Hermann Max (* 1941 in Goslar ) is a German church musician and conductor who is also known internationally as a representative of " historical performance practice ".
Life
Max studied church music at the Berlin University of Music , musicology , art history and archeology at the University of Cologne and new church music at the Folkwang University in Essen .
Max was church music director at the Christ Church in Dormagen until 2006 . In 1977 he founded the Dormagen youth choir, from which the Rheinische Kantorei choir emerged in 1985 . He is also the founder of the baroque orchestra Das Kleine Konzert .
With his ensembles he recorded numerous choral and orchestral works, especially from the Central German Baroque . A special focus of his work is the music of Georg Philipp Telemann and so far little known music of the Bach family .
In 1992 he founded a music festival, which takes place annually in September in the Knechtsteden monastery until 2006 under the name “Festliche Tage Alte Musik” and since 2007 as the “Festival Alte Musik Knechtsteden” .
