Ain Anger

Ain Anger (born June 17, 1971 in Kihelkonna ) is an Estonian opera singer ( bass ).

Life

Ain Anger grew up on the Estonian island of Saaremaa . From 1992 to 1996 he studied singing at the Estonian Academy of Music and Drama in Tallinn . From 1993 to 2001 he sang at the Estonian National Opera . His international career began in 2001 as a soloist in the ensemble of the Leipzig Opera . From 2004 to 2010 he was in the ensemble of the Vienna State Opera , his debut was Monterone in Rigoletto . In the Haus am Ring he sang the great roles of his field such as Philipp ( Don Carlo ), Sarastro ( Magic Flute ), Pogner ( Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg ), Hunding ( Die Walküre ) and Gremin ( Eugen Onegin ). In 2009 he made his debut as Fafner (in Rheingold and Siegfried ) at the Bayreuth Festival . Lively concert activity led him to orchestras in Tokyo, Stockholm, Amsterdam, New York, Cleveland, San Francisco, Saint Louis, Lucerne and Munich. He has worked with important conductors such as Lorin Maazel , Seiji Ozawa , Zubin Mehta , Riccardo Muti , Esa-Pekka Salonen , Franz Welser-Möst and Christian Thielemann . In 2013 he made his debut as Daland ( Flying Dutchman ) at La Scala in Milan . Ain Anger is married, has three children and lives with his family in Vienna.

Awards

In 2013 the Estonian President awarded him the Order of the White Star . On June 12, 2020, he was awarded the title Kammersänger at the Vienna State Opera .
