Ilse Gramatzki (* 1939 in Kiel ) is a German opera singer with a mezzo-soprano and alto voice .

Life

Ilse Gramatzki studied singing in Hamburg , among others with the soprano Erna Schlüter . In 1964 she got her first engagement at the Landestheater Detmold ; she stayed there until 1966. From 1966 to 1968 she was engaged at the Braunschweig State Theater . In 1968 she moved to the Cologne Opera , of which she was a permanent member of the ensemble until 1983. In 1975 she sang there as part of Jean-Pierre Ponnelle's Mozart cycle . Since 1974 she has also been permanently engaged at the Frankfurt Opera. Until the end of the 2000/01 season, Gramatzki was an official member of the ensemble there. From 1978 to 1980 there was also a guest contract with the Deutsche Oper Berlin .

In 1972 Gramatzki sang for the first time at the Bayreuth Festival . From 1972 to 1980 she was a permanent member of the Bayreuth Festival. She took on several mezzo-soprano and alto roles in Richard Wagner's musical dramas ; she sang Magdalene in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg (1976), the Floßhilde (1972–1974) and the Wellgunde (1976–1980) in The Ring of the Nibelung , the Grimgerde in Die Walküre (1972–1973, 1976–1980) and a Flower Girl (1972–1973, 1977–1980) and the First Squire (1977–1980) in Parsifal . From 1976 to 1980 she also worked in the so-called Ring of the Century by Patrice Chéreau and Pierre Boulez . The performances were recorded for television in 1980 and later published on CD and DVD.

Gramatzki appeared at the Salzburg Festival (1967, as Third Lady in Die Zauberflöte ). She also made guest appearances at the Vienna State Opera (1977 as Oktavian in Der Rosenkavalier ) and at the Wiener Festwochen (1976 as Annius in La clemenza di Tito , 1983 as Charlotte in The Soldiers and 1986 as Dorabella in Così fan tutte ).

She has also performed at the Hamburg State Opera , the Rome Opera House , the Dutch Opera in Amsterdam , the Théâtre de la Monnaie in Brussels (1983 as Charlotte in The Soldiers ) and the Covent Garden Opera in London .

Other important roles by Gramatzki were Orpheus in Orfeo ed Euridice , Cherubino and later Marcellina in Le nozze di Figaro , Annina in Der Rosenkavalier (director: Ruth Berghaus , premiere: 1992/93 season at Frankfurt Opera House), Maddalena in Rigoletto (among others during the season 1992/93 at the Frankfurt Opera House), Hansel in Hansel and Gretel and the Kaiser in the Opera We reach the river by Hans Werner Henze . Gramatzki was particularly known as a specialist in modern music and contemporary opera. In 1986 she took part in the premiere of the opera Stephen Climax by Hans Zender at the Frankfurt Opera House . In the 1990s, Gramatzki then switched from the great dramatic mezzo-soprano roles to the character subject. In July 1998 she sang Dryad in Ariadne auf Naxos at the Frankfurt Opera . In the 1999/00 season she sang the Third Lady in Die Zauberflöte , Marcellina in Le Nozze di Figaro and Larina in Eugene Onegin . In the 2001/02 season she sang the Third Lady in Die Zauberflöte there again .

Gramatzki also appeared as a concert singer with an extensive repertoire. She also had several appearances on German television , including in the shows Musik ist Trumpf (Cologne 1975) and One Will Win (January 1983 in Ludwigshafen am Rhein ).
