Kurt Schreibmayer

Kurt Schreibmayer (born October 30, 1953 in Klagenfurt ) is an Austrian chamber singer ( tenor ).

Life

Schreibmayer attended elementary school in Gurnitz and, after secondary school, completed an apprenticeship as a waiter at the Hotel Moser Verdino in Klagenfurt .

His musical training began with accordion lessons at the age of eight . At the age of 15 he became a member of the church choir and men's choir of Gurnitz and later founded his own youth choir.

In 1975 he began his studies at the Graz University of Music and just two years later received his first permanent contract at the Graz Opera House . In 1978 he was accepted at the Vienna Volksoper and in 1992 at the Vienna State Opera .

Guest engagements took him to the first opera houses, such as Berlin, Brussels, Düsseldorf, Essen, Hamburg, Munich, Palermo, Sydney and Zurich. He received further engagements at the Bregenz Festival , the Glyndebourne Festival Opera , the Mörbisch Seefestspiele and the Salzburg Festival . He was also engaged at the Bayreuth Festival from 1986 to 1992 . Schreibmayer completed concert tours through America, China, Japan and Russia, had numerous television appearances and gave several benefit concerts with his friends from the Vienna Volksoper in his home town of Ebenthal in Carinthia .

He has worked regularly with well-known conductors such as Christoph von Dohnányi , James Levine , Kent Nagano , Donald Runnicles , Peter Schneider , Giuseppe Sinopoli and Horst Stein and has worked in productions by Adolf Dresen , Götz Friedrich , Christine Mielitz , Hans Neuenfels and Adolf Rott .

Kurt Schreibmayer is married to the Austrian actress, operetta singer and musical artist Helga Papouschek and lives with her in Vienna.
