Helga Papouschek

Helga Papouschek (born July 27, 1941 in Vienna ) is an Austrian actress , operetta singer and musical artist .

Life

Helga Papouschek actually wanted to be a dancer, but then switched to acting. She began her artistic career as a ballet teacher at the Raimund Theater in Vienna . She studied acting and singing and after completing her training received her first engagement as a soubrette , dancer and actress at the Stadttheater in Baden near Vienna .

From Marcel Prawy Papouschek was at the Vienna Volksoper committed. There she played numerous roles in the field of soubrette, including the Letter Christl in The Bird Trader by Carl Zeller , the Sora in Gasparone by Carl Millöcker , the Pauline in Pariser Leben by Jacques Offenbach , the Valencienne in The Merry Widow by Franz Lehár , the Hedi in When the little violets bloom by Robert Stolz , Josepha Vogelhuber in Im Weiße Rössl by Ralph Benatzky , Iduna in Feuerwerk by Paul Burkhard , Eliza Doolittle in the musical My Fair Lady by Frederick Loewe and the title role in Kiss me Kate by Cole Porter .

Papouschek had other engagements at the Theater in der Josefstadt , the Burgtheater Vienna , the Volkstheater Vienna and the Wiener Kammerspiele . From 1991 to 1993 she appeared at the Vienna State Opera as Ida in the operetta Die Fledermaus by Johann Strauss .

At the Mörbisch Seefestspiele Helga Papouschek appeared on stage in 1965 as Raka in The Flower of Hawaii by Paul Abraham , in 1976 as Mi in The Land of Smiles by Franz Lehár and in 1978 as the circus rider Miss Mabel Gibson in The Circus Princess by Emmerich Kálmán .

In the late 1960s and early 1970s she was seen several times on Austrian and German television in literary adaptations or in television adaptations of operettas. In 1968 she played in the operetta When the Little Violets Bloom by Robert Stolz. In 1970 she was seen in a television version of Arthur Schnitzler's dream novel . In 1971 she took on the role of tasting mam Pepi Pleininger in a television adaptation of the operetta Wiener Blut by Johann Strauss . In 1972 she was at the side of Peter Fröhlich in a television version of the operetta Der Graf von Luxemburg by Franz Lehár the enchanting milliner Juliette Vermont .

In 1975 Papouschek announced their first long-playing record with songs by Peter Wehle .

The Summer Festival Weisskirchen Papouschek 2001 took over the role of the cook Peppi Blackbird in the Posse Earlier ratios of Johann Nestroy . In 2004 she appeared at the Vienna Operetta Festival in the Krieau as hotel owner Carla Schlumberger in the operetta Die Zirkusprinzessin . In 2005 Papouschek played at the theater Die neue Tribüne in Café Landtmann in Vienna in the tabloid comedy Always Trouble with Fred by James Saunders . In 2006 she took on the role of Princess Bozena in the operetta Countess Mariza by Emmerich Kálmán at the Vienna Volksoper .

With great success she was a female prison guard frog in the operetta Die Fledermaus at the ' Lehár Festival Bad Ischl in 2007 . In the 2007/2008 season she was back on the stage of the Vienna Volksoper in the role of the mother of the gods Juno in a new production of the operetta Orpheus in der Unterwelt by Jacques Offenbach . In 2010 she took on the role of Anhilte in the operetta Die Csárdásfürstin by Emmerich Kálmán in Bad Ischl .

Papouschek also made a name for himself as an interpreter of couplets and Viennese songs. In 2004, the recording of the operetta Der Rastelbinder by Franz Lehár with Helga Papouschek was awarded the German Record Critics' Prize in the Operetta department .

Helga Papouschek also works as a reciter with literary programs. In her programs she reads from novels by Vicki Baum, among others .

In recognition of her many years of service at the Vienna Volksoper, Helga Papouschek was made an honorary member . Helga Papouschek is married to the Austrian tenor and chamber singer Kurt Schreibmayer . The couple lives in Vienna.
