Christine Mielitz (born November 23, 1949 in Chemnitz ) is a German general manager and director .

Life

Christine Mielitz was born as the daughter of a Chemnitz concert master and therefore came into contact with music theater at an early age. After graduating from school, she studied opera directing with Götz Friedrich and Hans-Jochen Irmer from 1968 to 1972 at the Hanns Eisler Music Academy in East Berlin .

In the course of her studies, Mielitz completed an internship with Harry Kupfer at the Dresden State Opera, which initially led to a position as Kupfer's assistant from 1973 and where she worked as a director from 1980. In the same year, Giuseppe Verdi's Nabucco premiered in Wuppertal, her first own production. From 1982 she acted as senior director at the Dresden State Opera .

In 1989 she worked as a director at the Komische Oper Berlin , where she also became senior director in 1992. From 1998 to 2002 she was the artistic director of the Meininger Theater . In Meiningen , with the first performance of the Ring on four consecutive days, as Wagner always wanted, she was able to record a great international success.

From 2002 to 2010 Mielitz was the opera director of the Dortmund Opera House . Since then she has been working as a guest director, mainly at the Vienna State Opera and the Dresden State Opera.
