Legendary Entertainment is an American film production company based in Burbank, California . The company also became known under the name of the subsidiary Legendary Pictures .

history

Legendary Entertainment was created by Thomas Tull founded and was the first company of its kind, the big Hollywood films through private capital and hedge funds - investors financed. This earned him the 2005 IDD Magazine Media / Entertainment Deal of the Year title . Bank of America is one of the investors .

In 2005, the company signed a deal with Warner Bros. Entertainment under which Legendary Entertainment would co-fund and co-produce 40 Warner Bros. films over a period of seven years. The most commercially successful films from this phase were the five co-produced with Syncopy Films by Christopher Nolan (worldwide grossing: almost 4 billion US dollars) and the three comedies produced with Green Hat Films by Todd Phillips (worldwide grossing: over 1.2 Billion US dollars).

In 2010, a comic book publisher was founded under the name Legendary Comics.

After the Warner Bros. contract expired, Legendary Entertainment announced in July 2013 that they would partner with Universal Pictures in 2014 . The contract is for a period of 5 years.

In 2015, films produced by Legendary had grossed more than $ 12 billion in box office worldwide .

On January 11, 2016, the Chinese Wanda Group announced that it had reached an agreement with the shareholders to acquire Legendary Entertainment for a price of 3.5 billion dollars.

In January 2017, Thomas Tull resigned from his position as CEO. Wanda manager Jack Gao took over the management of the company on an interim basis. Josh Grode was announced as the new CEO in December 2017.
