Michael "Mike" Dougherty (born October 28, 1974 in Columbus , Ohio ) is an American director and screenwriter . He became known through his collaboration with Dan Harris and Bryan Singer , with whom he made the comic book adaptations X-Men 2 , Superman Returns and X-Men: Apocalypse , among others .

life and career

After a few short films, Dougherty was first known to a larger audience in 2003 as the screenwriter of the comic book adaptation X-Men 2 . He wrote the script with Dan Harris, whom he met at a party in New York City in 2000.

In 2006 Dougherty worked again with Harris and Singer on the superhero film Superman Returns . In 2007 Dougherty made his debut as a feature film director with the horror film Trick 'r Treat . In 2015 he shot the horror comedy Krampus , the script of which he also wrote, for Legendary Pictures .

In May 2016, X-Men: Apocalypse started , for which Dougherty again wrote the script together with Harris.

Dougherty was initially hired as a screenwriter for the sequel Godzilla II: King of the Monsters . After filmmaker Gareth Edwards withdrew his involvement, Dougherty also took over the direction of the film. The script was written in collaboration with Zach Shields and Max Borenstein . The film was released in theaters in May 2019.
