Dieter Schweikard

Dieter Schweikard (born January 9, 1942 in Hemer ) is a German chamber singer .

Life

During his apprenticeship as a bell founder , Dieter Schweikard began his vocal training at the age of 17 at the Cologne University of Music and Dance , department in Wuppertal . At the age of 23 he had his first engagement at the Saarbrücken State Theater . Further engagements followed at various stages - including at the Hanover State Opera , the Wuppertaler Bühnen , the Dortmund Opera, the Deutsche Oper am Rhein and the Cologne Opera . Schweikard has been a permanent member of the Cologne Opera ensemble since 1988.

His guest engagements have taken him to all the major opera houses in Europe, for example to Berlin , Paris , Hamburg , Munich , Rome , Brussels , Naples and Amsterdam . From 1981 the bassist sang at the Bayreuth Festival for 12 years . Schweikard worked with important conductors and directors of the 20th century such as Georg Solti , Giuseppe Sinopoli , Wolfgang Wagner and Grischa Barfuss . In the 1980s Schweikard founded and directed the chamber opera in Herdecke and in the late 1990s he brought the children's opera to life at the Cologne Opera.

Parallel to his appearances, he devotes himself to training young singers as a teacher at the Cologne University of Music , gives master classes worldwide and is the founder and director of the International Singing Academy in Wels, Austria.
