A cottage is located at 472a South Lochboisdale on the Scottish Hebridean island of South Uist . In 1980 the building was included in the Scottish List of Monuments in the highest category A.

description

The cottage is on a back road to the A865 south of the Loch Baghasdail estuary to the south of South Uist. Lochboisdale ferry terminal is two kilometers north. The building was probably constructed in the 19th century. The one-story cottage resembles comparable houses on the Isle of Skye . The front door is in the middle of the east-facing front and is flanked by two windows. Two more windows are installed on the opposite side of the building. The mighty masonry consists of quarry stone , with the building edges being rounded. Chimneys tower at both ends. The building ends with a thatched roof that is secured with nets and stones. Parts of the damaged thatched roof were repaired with straw. In the north and south there are stables and a shed. Another outbuilding to the east has fallen into disrepair today. The last permanent residents left the cottage in the 1980s. It later burned out, but was restored and can now be rented as a holiday home.
