7th Squadron
The 7th Squadron ( Russian 7-я оперативная эскадра , German 7th operational squadron ) was a naval unit of the Soviet Navy and later the Russian Navy .
The area of operation was in the Atlantic . During the Cold War , its primary task was to accompany the carrier combat groups of the American Atlantic fleet; in the event of a crisis, it was supposed to fight the strategic submarines of the enemy stationed in the Atlantic . The 7th Squadron was operationally under the Northern Fleet from 1968 to November 20, 2005 . Then it was resolved.
The combat force of the 7th Squadron consisted of the following units:
- 170th Torpedo Boat Brigade (1968–1972), 170th UAW Brigade (1971–1991), 44th UAW Division (1991–1993)
- 120th Missile Ship Brigade (1971–1991), 43rd Missile Ship Division (1991–2005)
- 56th Torpedo Boat Brigade (1978-1998)
- 121st Dropship Brigade (1997-2001)
- 2nd UAW Division (2001-2005)
In the 1970s, units of the 7th Squadron rehearsed sea landings on the coast of Guinea using the port of Conakry as a base.
