- In his fifth year of reign (722 to 721 BC) the Assyrian king Shalmaneser V dies at the beginning of the month of Tebetu ( January ).
- Year of accession for the Assyrian King Sarru-kīn II , who ascends the throne on January 11th (12th Tebetu: January 10th-11th).
- Marduk-apla-iddina II uses the time after the death of Shalmaneser V to seize the throne as the new Babylonian king at the beginning of the month of Nisannu .
