history

Historical logo

7 Up was invented by Charles Leiper Grigg in 1929 . First called the product "Bib-Label Lithiated Lemon-Lime Soda" and two weeks ago was the world economic crisis in 1929 sold for the first time. Until 1950 it contained lithium citrate , a mood-stabilizing agent that is used in psychiatry for lithium therapy . It was marketed as a hangover remedy. The name was later changed to 7 Up.

In Germany and Austria , only 7 Up with lemon and lime flavor and 7 Up light are sold, at times also “Mojito” (mint flavor). In Switzerland there are also 7 Up with grapefruit flavor (also as a light drink) and the 7Up H2 Oh! Available with apple, lemon or lime flavor. In other countries there are also 7 Up Cherry with cherry flavor, Diet 7 Up, Diet 7 Up Cherry and 7 Up plus in different flavors.

The recipe has been changed and now also contains stevioglycosides as a sweetener. In addition, the sugar content was reduced from 9 grams / 100 ml to 7 grams / 100 ml. This change does not affect the American market.
