The fumble

Louisiana Tech was 14:57 behind before the start of the game. Louisiana Tech was on the Mississippi States 6 yard line and was on the 2nd down & goal. The subsequent snap, however, was thrown over the head of quarterback J'Mar Smith , so the ball was considered fumbled. Smith then ran after the ball and tried to throw himself at it, but was unable to get the ball under control. Mississippi States Maurice Smitherman tried to pick up the ball himself, but without throwing himself at him and so being Down . Instead, he just shot the ball away. He then tried to throw himself on the ball, as did his teammate Marquiss Spencer . Neither of them managed to control the ball, instead the ball was pushed backwards. Smitherman then chased the ball further, but shot it again, this time to his teammate Lashard Durr . He shot the ball twice and brought it so deep into the open field. Louisiana Tech Cee Jay Powell and Mississippi States Willie Gay Jr. tried to capture the ball. Powell won the duel for the ball and captured the ball at Tech's 7-yard line.
