8 × 4

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

8 × 4 ("eight times four") is a brand of Beiersdorf AG .

history

In 1951, Beiersdorf developed a deodorant that specifically inhibited the growth of sweat- decomposing bacteria . The new development was primarily made possible by the active ingredient hexachlorodihydroxydiphenylmethane .

Internally, the substance was designated as "B32" (after the 32 letters of the active substance). The then advertising manager Juan Gregorio Clausen came across this abbreviation when he was campaigning for the relaunch of Nivea when he was looking for a catchy product name for the new deodorant. This is how the name “8 × 4” emerged and was registered as a trademark .

8 × 4 initially appeared as a "deodorizing toilet and bath soap". The 8 × 4 powder was launched in 1952, followed a few years later by 8 × 4 aerosol spray (1958, spray cans ), 8 × 4 roller (1958), 8 × 4 pen (1963) and 8 × 4 Bubble Bath (1967). Today 8 × 4 is available as a deodorant spray and deodorant roll-on.
