999 is a musical group from Great Britain that was founded in 1976 and is one of the veterans of punk music . She has remained true to this style to this day.
history
Guitarists Nick Cash, formerly with Kilburn and the High Roads , and Guy Days knew each other from school. In 1976 they found bassist Jon Watson and drummer Pablo LaBritain through an advertisement in Melody Maker , with whom they formed a punk band. At first they changed the name for the band several times. They called themselves “The Dials”, “Fanatics” and “48 Hours” until they finally gave themselves the name “999”. In the beginning, they rarely got the opportunity to perform in public, especially since all band members were still working. It was not until the spring of 1977, when the Albion agency took care of them, that they got the opportunity to perform in well-known London clubs. They played in "Nashville", "Red Cow", "Hope & Anchor", Roxy Club and "Southall". In mid-1977 they released the single I'm Alive under their own label, LaBritain , which sold over 10,000 copies.
A short time later they got a record deal with United Artists . Her singles Nasty, Nasty , Emergency , Feeling Alright with the Crew , High Energy Plan , Homicide , Me and My Desire and the first albums 999 and Separates sold well. However , they lost a planned appearance in Top of the Pops with Homicide because the technicians went on strike in the week when the title was in the charts and the program was therefore canceled.
For an American tour in March 1979, the drummer Ed Case briefly jumped in for Pablo Labritian because he was injured in a car accident. Nevertheless, the tour was successful. Live recordings of it appeared in 1980 on the LP The Biggest Tour In Sport .
Since then, the band has toured frequently through England, Scotland, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Belgium, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Poland, the Czech Republic, Japan, the USA, Argentina and Brazil. Arturo Bassick, who is also employed by the Lurkers who are often on tour with 999 , now plays the bass . Otherwise nothing has changed in the original line-up. 999 continued to release numerous other studio and live albums (e.g. Live in LA 1991 in 1991 on Triple X Records ).
style
The US Touch & Go - Fanzine defined in 1979 the band's music as crossover punk and mainstream . The band offers "unpretentious, uncomplicated good-mood music" and is one of the best contemporary bands in this segment.
