The 9P140MB Uragan-M ( Russian Ураган-M / Hurricane-M ) is a multiple missile launcher system made by Belarus and presented in Minsk in 2019. It is based on the BM-27 from the former Soviet Union . The rockets with a caliber of 220 mm are called 9M27 .

Development history

The system was developed in the 2010s by the state arms manufacturer Wolatawto ( OAO "ВОЛАТАВТО" ) in Minsk to replace the outdated BM-27 from Soviet production, which - according to Belarusian sources - should have already started. It is planned to replace the majority of the BM-27 in the Belarusian army. It was also said that exports and combat missions had already taken place abroad. It is possible that the first buyers of the Uragan-M will be African countries and Syria .

The 16 launch tubes viewed from behind

The Uragan-M system is based on the all- terrain three-axle MAZ-631705 - all-wheel-drive truck (exact name: MAZ-631705-364R5 ) in contrast to the outdated four-axle ZIL-135 of the Uragan version. The more modern basic vehicle in particular represents a significant increase in performance, especially since the driver's cab should now be protected against projectiles of smaller caliber. In addition, with the MAZ-631705, the driving range was more than doubled and the speed on paved roads was significantly increased. A tube package with 16 tubes of the caliber 220 mm is mounted on the vehicle . The pipes are arranged in two layers of six and a third layer with four pipes. As with the previous Uragan version, the tube package can be rotated horizontally by 60 ° in the direction of travel (30 ° on each side). The pipe package can be adjusted vertically at an angle of 0–55 °. Accordingly, the launcher technology was only minimally changed, all missiles of the BM-27 should be usable. Each vehicle should have a satellite navigation system. This achieves a minimum reaction time from full speed to the opening of the fire of around three minutes. The fire control center of the battery also housed on a VTR 6317 trucks, which to a guidance system of the battalion is connected and with artillery reconnaissance radars are connected.

The truck-based 9Т452MB is used to reload an empty- fired 9P140 starter vehicle . This vehicle is also based on the MAZ-631705 truck. The vehicle transports 16 rockets and has a crane with which the rockets are individually attached to the launch tubes of the Uragan M launch vehicle and pushed into them. The reloading process for all launcher tubes takes a maximum of 31 minutes, other sources spoke of up to 14 minutes, which was a drastic increase in performance compared to the previous model. The 9Т452MB has a total mass of 21.15 tons.

For Shipment of the Uragan-M can with transport aircraft of the type Ilyushin Il-76 , Antonov An-22 and Antonov An-124 transported.
