Aëropos (son of Ares)
Aëropos ( ancient Greek Ἀέροπος ) is in Greek mythology the son of Ares and Aërope , a daughter of the king Cepheus of Tegea .
According to Pausanias, Aërope gave birth to Ares, Aëropos, but died during childbirth. Ares made sure that the newborn could still be breastfed extensively on the dead mother's breast, and was then given the nickname Aphneios, the productive. A sanctuary of Aphneios near Tegea reminded of the anecdote in the time of Pausanias and the hill on which the sanctuary stood was once called Aëropos . Elsewhere, however, Pausanias names Cepheus as the father of Aëropos and this as the father of Echemus .
