Aïssatou Mbodj

Aïssatou Mbodj (* in Bambey , Département Bambey , Diourbel region , Senegal ) is a Senegalese politician who has served as a minister several times.

Life

Aïssatou Mbodj, who is nicknamed "Lioness of Baol " ('Lionne du Baol') , was initially a member of the Parti Socialiste du Senegal (PS) and later switched to the Democratic Party of PDS ( Parti Démocratique Sénégalais ) . She was mayor of her native Bambey until she was succeeded by Pape Diouf in 2000. Between April 2004 and November 2006, she took over the office of Minister for Women, Family and Social Development (Ministre de la Femme, de la Famille, etc.) in Prime Minister Macky Sall's cabinet du Développement social) and, after a government reshuffle, from November 2006 to June 2007 as Minister for Women, Family, Social Development and Entrepreneurship for Women (Ministre de la Femme, de la Famille, du Développement social et de l'Entreprenariat féminin) .

In the parliamentary elections in July 2007, Aïssatou Mbodj was elected to the National List of the SOPI coalition for the first time as a member of the National Assembly (Assemblée nationale du Sénégal) and took over the office as Fourth Vice-President of the National Assembly. In the local elections 2009, she ran again for the office of Mayor of Bambey and but could not prevail against the incumbent Pape Diouf, of the party thereby Rewmi of Idrissa Seck belonged. She herself then became Minister for Food Processing of Agricultural Products (Ministre de la transformation alimentaire des produits agricoles) in the cabinet of Prime Minister Souleymane Ndéné Ndiaye in April 2009 and held this position until April 2012.

In the elections on July 1, 2012 , Aïssatou Mbodj was re-elected as a member of the National Assembly on the PDS National List. In 2014 she became chairwoman of the council of the Bambey department and held this position until April 2016. On October 14, 2016, she took over the post of president of the Liberal and Democratic Group . In the elections on July 30, 2017 , she was re-elected as a member of the National Assembly, where she represents the interests of Bambey.
