AD Police is an anime television series from 1999. It is a remake or prequel of AD. Police from 1990, which in turn emerged as an offshoot of the anime Bubblegum Crisis . In 2003 the offshoot Parasite Dolls was published again. The work belongs to the genres of science fiction , action and cyberpunk .

Kenji Sasaki, officer with the AD Police in Tokyo, has lost another partner. Now he gets the German Hans Kleif at his side. Now he has to fight with him against runaway boomers, android robots, that threaten the city. After an earthquake, this came under the control of the Genom group, which rebuilt the city with the help of the boomers.

Production and publication

In 1999 Studio AIC produced a new version of the material under the direction of Hidehito Ueda. The character design was created by Naoyuki Konno, the artistic director was Shinji Katahira. The design of the mechas comes from Natsuki Mamiya, Reimu Aoki and Toru Takahashi.

The series was broadcast from April 8 to June 30, 1999 on TV Tokyo . An English translation, entitled AD Police: To Protect and Serve , was released on DVD and broadcast on television and via streaming by The Anime Network . There is also a French and a Korean version.

Yoshinobu Hiraiwa was responsible for the anime's music. The song Imaginary Girl by Infix was used for the opening credits , the closing title is Toki no Naka de by Masha.

reception

According to Funime magazine , the series was a failure. This is mainly attributed to the insufficient budget. The Anime Encyclopedia describes the series as disappointing. It deviated greatly from the earlier concept and the plot was instead created as a buddy film . In the choice of names in particular, it became clear that great attention was paid to international marketability during production.
