Anton H. Westergård

Anton Hilmer Westergård (born May 8, 1880 in Ränneslöv , † February 25, 1968 in Stockholm ) was a Swedish paleontologist .

Live and act

Anton Westergaard was the son of a farmer. He received his doctorate from Lund University in 1909 and worked from 1910 to 1945 for the Swedish State Geological Institute (Sveriges Geologiska Undersökning) and was the director of their museum. Westergaard is known for his investigation of the Cambrian of Sweden, shown for example in his main work Sveriges Olenidskiffer (Sveriges Geolog. Unders., No. 18, 1922), that describes the stratigraphy of the Upper Cambrian of Sweden and in connection with the neighboring Scandinavian countries sets (and at the same time describes 28 new trilobite species ). For this he received the Charles Doolittle Walcott Medal in 1939 . Westergaard was an honorary member of the Paleontological Society (1925) and an external member of the Geological Society of London (1952).
