The A45 west of Dunchurch

The road begins in Birmingham on the Birmingham Middleway ring road, runs as a dual carriageway in an east- south- east direction out of the city and past Birmingham Airport , at its junction 6 leads over the M42 motorway and becomes the north-south leading axis of the A452 road Stonebridge Crossed interchange. Further to the east, it goes around Coventry south and runs for a short section together with the A46 road , from which it separates again at the Tollbar End Roundabout. Immediately afterwards the A423 road branches off to the southeast. After 13 km the A45 goes west of Dunchurch in theM45 motorway over, but leaves this at the next connection and leads, now two-lane, to Daventry , where the A425 road coming from the west joins. The A45 then crosses the A5 road and joins the M1 motorway at junction 16 (the continuation to Northampton is called the A4500 road ). East of Northampton, the A45 continues with separate lanes along the valley of the River Nene , crosses the A509 road at Wellingborough and the A6 road north-east of Rushden and runs, now with two lanes, to Thrapston , where it meets the A14 road and into the A605 road passes over.
