SuperM is a corporation founded in 2019 K-Pop - supergroup from the South Korean capital, Seoul , with the company SM Entertainment is connected.

The group's members play in successful pop groups such as Shinee , Exo , NCT 127 and WayV . With their EP named after the group, released in October 2019, SuperM immediately achieved their first number one album in the United States .

history

The formation of the group was announced in August 2019 during a convention of the major music label Capitol Records by Lee Soo-man , founder of SM Entertainment , and Steve Barnett of Capitol as "the Avengers of K-Pop ". Members of the group are Baekhyun and Kai from Exo , Taeyong and Mark from NCT 127 , Taemin from Shinee , and Lucas and Ten from the Chinese cantopop group WayV , all of which are part of SM Entertainment.

K-pop fans had mixed reactions to the formation of the supergroup: while some were excited about the debut, others expressed concerns that SM Entertainment was prioritizing established groups and that members of the band Exo would embark on solo careers before being drafted into the South Korean military . Also, its debut in the United States before advertising in South Korea was cited as a cause of concern for many fans.

Shortly after the founding of the supergroup, it began to be advertised and announced the debut in the United States and South Korea for October of the same year. In August the group flew to Dubai and shot their music video for the song Jopping there . SuperM released their self-titled EP on October 4th, 2019, along with the music video for the single Jopping . This EP immediately reached number one on the official album charts in the United States , with sales of 164,000 units .

SuperM gave their first concert on October 5, 2019 in the Capitol Records office building in Los Angeles , California . Four days later, the group made their first television appearance on the Ellen DeGeneres Show . In November SuperM will start their first tour through North America , which will continue in February 2020. A safety video was recorded with the group in collaboration with the Korean airline Korean Air .

On April 26, 2020, the group completed their first online concert on the Beyond Live platform, which was created in cooperation with SM Entertainment and the media group Naver . This concert, which was broadcast in 109 states, saw 75,000 people worldwide who had previously purchased a ticket for the event. It is unclear how many people viewed the concert in an alternative way.
