NCT 127 is the second subgroup of the South Korean boy group NCT from Seoul .

history

All ten members of NCT 127 were part of the training group SM Rookies, which was founded by SM Entertainment . In January 2016, SM Entertainment founder Lee Soo-man announced a new boy band that would include several subgroups in different cities around the world. This group is called NCT . NCT 127 represents one of these subgroups. This was announced on July 1, 2016 and initially consisted of the members Taeyong, Taeil, Jaehyun and Mark, who played in the group NCT U , which is also an NCT subgroup, as well as from the three new members Yuta, Winwin and Haechan.

With NCT # 127 , their first EP was released on July 10, 2016, which initially reached number two on the domestic music charts and was able to climb to number one the following week . As part of the music program M Countdown on the South Korean music channel Mnet , the group had their first television appearance where they performed the pieces Fire Truck and Once Again . In December released a video for the song Good Thing , before Switch released another music video in collaboration with K-pop group SR15B and added two new members to the group: Johnny and Doyoung from NCT U.

On January 5, 2017, Limitless, a music video for the EP of the same name, was released four days later. The EP immediately hit number one on the Gaon album charts. In June, the EP Cherry Bomb was released, including the single of the same name, which was named one of the best K-Pop songs of the year by Billboard .

On March 14, 2018, NCT 127 released the single Touch as part of the album NCT 2018 Empathy , on which all subgroups of NCT are represented under the name NCT 2018. On May 23 of the same year, NCT 127 released the EP Chain via Avex Trax exclusively for the Japanese market and entered the local music charts at number two . In August, a single, Let's Shut Up and Dance, was released as part of a collaboration between worldwide music stars in honor of Michael Jackson in which Jason Derulo and Lay Zhang from EXO also participated.

On October 12, 2018, the boy group's debut album Regular-Irregular was released, which reached number one in South Korea and number 86 in the US charts . In addition, with Jungwoo, another member of NCT U joined NCT 127, who have since performed with ten singers. The group presented the English language versions of Cherry Bomb and Regular on Jimmy Kimmel Live! , which also brought the boy band's first TV appearance on US television. This was followed by a promotion in the United States , during which the group appeared in a Mickey Mouse special on the broadcaster ABC . On October 21, 2018, the group released Up Next Session: NCT 127, a digital EP on Apple Music with alternative versions of the tracks Fire Truck , Cherry Bomb and Regular as well as the new song What We Talkin 'About in collaboration with Marteen . On November 23, the debut album was reissued under the title Regulate with the new piece Simon Says . It has also been announced that Winwin will be participating in the boy band's activities for the near future as he prepares for his debut with WayV .

On January 26th and 27th, 2019, the group played in front of 24,000 spectators at the Olympic Gymnastics Arena in Seoul . In February and March, the boy band toured seven cities in Japan and performed in front of a total of 74,000 concert-goers. Concerts in the United States and Canada will follow between April 24 and May 19, 2019 . Before the start of the North American tour , the group appeared on Good Morning America on April 18 as the third K-Pop group ever after BTS and Blackpink , as well as on Strahan and Sara . A concert in Mexico will follow on May 21, 2019 , before two concerts in Russia at the end of June .

On March 18, 2019, the band released their first single, Wakey-Wakey, from their second album Awaken , which was released exclusively for the Japanese market on April 17, 2019 by Avex Trax . In April the band signed a distribution deal with Capitol Music Group and Caroline Distribution , who will distribute future releases in several regions around the world. The release of their EP We Are Superhuman was also announced for May 24, 2019. As before, the band continues to work with nine, as Winwin is currently still active at WayV.
