SHINee ( kor .: 샤이니 ; pronounced like the English "shiny") is a boy group from South Korea , which was founded in 2008 by SM Entertainment . On May 25, 2008 SHINee made her debut with " 누난 너무 예뻐 (Replay)" ("Noonan Neomu Yeppeo (Noona you're so pretty)").

Band history

2008: Debut and The Shinee World

On May 22, 2008, the first mini-album , Replay , was released by the SM Entertainment label. The mini-album debuted at number 10 in the Korean Music Charts and reached eighth place at its prime, selling 17,957 albums in the first half of 2008.

On June 7th, 2008 SHINee took part in the Dream Concert at the Olympic Stadium in Seoul along with other South Korean singers and groups . The group won their first award, "Rookie of the Month", at the Cyworld Digital Music Awards on June 22nd, 2008. SHINee took part in SM Town Live '08, held on August 18th, 2008 at the Seoul Olympic Stadium. On August 23, 2008, the group participated in MNet's 20's Choice Awards 2008, where they received the "Hot New Star" award.

SHINee released their first full length album, The SHINee World , on August 28, 2008. The album debuted at number 3, with 30,000 copies sold. The first single released from this album was "Sanso Gateun Neo" ( 산소 같은 너 , dt. You are like air), a cover version of the song "Show the World" by Martin Hoberg Hedegaard , originally written by the Danish Liederkompositions- und Production group of Thomas Troelsen, Remee and Lucas Secon. On September 18th, 2008 Shinee's "Sanso Gateun Neo (Love Like Oxygen)" became the # 1 song on M! Countdown . A few days later, Shinee received the "Mutizen" award for the same single on SBS's Popular Songs .

SHINee took part in the 5th Asian Song Festival and won the "Best New Artist" award together with the Japanese girl band , Berryz Kobo . The group took part in the 2008 Style Icon Awards on October 30, 2008 and won the "Best Style Icon Award" there. On the same day a repackage album of "The SHINee World" entitled "A.Mi.Go" was released. The repackage album included three new songs: "Forever or Never", a remix by Sa. Gye. Han (Love Should Go On / Love should be constant) and the theme song "A.Mi.Go". "A.Mi.Go" is the abbreviation for "Areumdaun Minyeorueljoahamyeon Gosaenghanda" ( 아름다운 미녀 를 좋아 하면 고생 한다 , lit. Your heart hurts when you fall in love with a beauty).

On November 15th, 2008 SHINee won the "Best Male Rookie" award at MNet's 10th Annual KM Music Festival, beating newcomers 2PM , 2AM, U-KISS and Mighty Mouth. At the 23rd Annual Golden Disk Awards, they sang a medley of their songs "Noona Neomu Yeppeo (Replay)", "Sanso Gateun Neo (Love Like Oxygen / Liebe wie Luft)" and "A.Mi.Go (Amigo) "and won the" YEPP Newcomer Album "award.

2009: Romeo and 2009, Year of Us

In early February, SHINee won the Best Newcomer Award at the 18th Seoul Music Awards together with Davichi and Mighty Mouth. SM Entertainment later announced that SHINee would make a comeback on May 21, 2009 with their 2nd mini-album Romeo . On May 18, the album's first single, Juliette , was released, an instrumental reissue of Corbin Bleus Deal With It . It was later announced that the comeback had to be postponed because Onew had damaged his teeth and so the release of the mini-album was postponed to May 25th. Ultimately, SHINee had their comeback performance on June 5th, 2009 at KBS 'Music Bank, where they won the first place award.

On July 16, 2009, SM Entertainment released the first part of SHINee's first photobook called Day . The second part, Night , was released on September 25th .

On October 19, 2009, five months after Romeo's release , the group released their third mini-album , 2009, Year Of Us . SM Entertainment stated that this EP would highlight the voices of the group and demonstrate their unique qualities. The lead single, Ring Ding Dong , was released for download on October 14th and the group made their comeback on October 16th at KBS 'Music Bank. In early December 2009, SHINee won the Popularity Award at the 24th Golden Disk Awards , along with Super Junior , a group that is also under contract with SM Entertainment. In February 2010, the group won the Major BonSang Award at the 19th Seoul Music Awards. In December SHINee started the promotions for their song Jo Jo with some live appearances on local radio stations.

2010: Lucifer and the first Asia tour

From July 8th to 12th, 2010 SM Entertainment published individual photo teasers for the new album for each member and on July 14th the 1st teaser for the music video of the lead single on the official YouTube channel. Originally the group was supposed to have their comeback appearance on July 16 at KBS Music Bank and thus start the promotions for the new album, but Minho injured himself on July 8 while shooting Let's Go Dream Team! Season 2 on the ankle and the comeback has been postponed to July 23.

The second long album, Lucifer , and the music video for the lead single, also called Lucifer, were released in South Korea on July 19, 2010. Within hours of its release, the album topped several South Korean sales charts. The songs on this album "were chosen more carefully than ever". The album was said to be "giving the listener the opportunity to experience different musical characters and the more mature vocal abilities of the singers". The comeback performance took place on July 23 at KBS Music Bank . The choreography for Lucifer was published on August 3rd on the same YouTube channel. The new edition of the studio album was titled Hello and was released on October 1, 2010 with three bonus tracks . The music video for the promo single, which is also called Hello , was released on October 4th.

During her PR activities for the second studio album , SHINee took part in the SMTown Live '10 World Tour with other artists from the same entertainment company . On August 21, 2010, the group performed at a concert at the Olympic Stadium in Seoul. On September 4, 2010, she performed at a concert at the Staples Center in Los Angeles , and on the 11th, she performed at a concert at the Shanghai Hongkou Football Stadium in Shanghai.

On December 26, 2010 SHINee started the first concert tour, Shinee World , with a concert in the Kokuritsu Yoyogi Kyōgijō (sports hall) in Tokyo . The concert had around 24,000 visitors. The group also announced that they would release a Japanese-language studio album in 2011 under EMI Music Japan , a music label known for the success of Japanese-American singer-songwriter Hikaru Utada .

2011: Japanese debut and The First

On January 1, 2011, SHINee performed in a concert at the Olympic Gymnastics Arena in Seoul as part of their tour, Shinee World. On January 2, before the repeat of the concert in Seoul, Shinee held a press conference. The group answered many questions about their future plans and announced that they would make their debut in Japan in March 2011. The next concerts on the tour took place in Taipei , Nanjing , Singapore , Nagoya and Osaka . On January 25th and 26th, 2011, the group took part in the Japanese leg of the "SMTown Live '10 World Tour" held at the Yoyogi National Gymnasium in Tokyo, and later in two concerts in Paris at the Zenith de Paris, three concerts in Tokyo at the Tokyo Dome and Madison Square Garden in New York .

On May 16, 2011, EMI Music Japan published a teaser for the Japanese version of "Replay" on its official YouTube channel. The music video was released on the same channel on May 27, 2011. The single was released in Japan on June 22nd and sold more than 91,000 copies in its first week. It was awarded gold by the RIAJ after selling over 100,000 singles in June 2011.

On June 19, 2011, SHINee made history by becoming the first Asian artist to perform at Abbey Road Studios in London , where they held their "Japan Debut Premium Reception". On July 22nd, SHINee started their "Japan Debut Premium Reception" tour. They performed in many concerts in various cities in Japan, including Fukuoka on July 22nd, Kobe on July 23rd, Tokyo on July 27th and 28th, Sapporo on August 8th and Nagoya on August 11th.

EMI Music Japan released the music video for the Japanese version of "Juliette" on their official YouTube channel on August 8, 2011. The single was released in Japan on August 28. On October 12, 2011, the group released their third Japanese single, "Lucifer," after the single's official music video was posted on EMI Music Japan's YouTube channel on September 15, 2011. On Oricon website has announced that SHINee is the first foreign artist in the 44 years of the existence of Oricon, the three singles in Japan published and managed to place all three singles in the top three on the Oricon weekly singles chart. These singles are SHINee's first three Japanese singles: "Replay", "Juliette" and "Lucifer".

On October 17, 2011, EMI Music Japan announced that SHINee would release their first Japanese studio album, The First, on November 23, 2011. However, the release date was later changed to December 7, 2011. The album included five new songs in addition to the Japanese reissue of seven previously released Korean songs. The normal version of the album also included the drama theme song "Strangers 6", a song called "Stranger".

The group was invited to be the opening act of the sixth London Korean Film Festival, which took place on November 3, 2011 at the Odeon West End Theater . SHINee also performed in their one-hour gala concert "SHINee in London", the tickets for this were sold out within a minute of the start of sales on October 27, 2011. This was the first time a Korean artist has given an independent concert in London.

On November 18, 2011, it was announced that Onew, Key, and Taemin would publish a book about their trip to Barcelona, ​​Spain. Which made them the first Korean idols to publish a travel guide. 2012: Sherlock, first Japan Arena tour and second Asia tour

A year and six months after the release of Hello , SHINee announced their long-awaited comeback with their fourth mini-album called Sherlock . On March 19, 2012, the download version of the album was released through various music sites. The tangible album was available in South Korea on March 21, and on March 22, the music video of the theme song, Sherlock , was released on SM Entertainment's YouTube channel.

On March 26, 2012, SHINee and their label colleagues became shareholders in SM Entertainment. Each member of the group received 340 shares , valued at approximately € 10,010.

In Japan the single "Sherlock" was published on 16 May 2012 found. The group also started their first Japanese nationwide concert tour called "SHINee World 2012" on April 25, 2012. The tour included a total of 20 concerts in Fukuoka , Sapporo , Nagoya , Osaka , Kobe , Tokyo and Hiroshima . The Japanese single "Dazzling Girl" was released on October 10th. The single sold 97,111 copies in its first week and was selected to be the theme song for the Japanese television series "Sukkiri". To promote their new single, SHINee held a "Dazzling Girl Special Showcase" from November 1st to 13th in the Zepp halls in Fukuoka , Osaka , Tokyo , Nagoya , and Sapporo .

SHINee's official Japanese fan club, SHINee World J, opened on September 1, 2012. To celebrate its founding, SHINee held official fan club events called "Shinee World J Fan Club Event 2012" on December 20, 2012 in the Osaka-jō Hall and on December 24 in the Makuhari Messe. On October 4th, 2012, EMI announced the release of SHINee's first smartphone game, called "SHINee My Love," which was released on October 10th.

The group released their first Japanese ballad single, 1000-nen, Zutto Soba ni Ite ... (1000 Years Always By Your Side), as their sixth Japanese single, and the live DVD for their “SHINee World 2012” arena tour on December 12, 2012.

On November 19, 2012, SHINee and actor Kim Soo-hyun won the Ministry of Culture Award at the annual Korean Popular Culture & Arts Awards from South Korea's Ministry of Culture, Sports & Tourism and Korea's Creative Content Agency (KOCCA) , at the Olympic Hall in Seoul.

On November 30, 2012, SHINee participated in the Mnet Asian Music Awards held in Hong Kong and won the Best Dance Performance - Male Group award for their single Sherlock (Clue + Note).

2017

Jonghyun died on December 18, 2017 as a result of suicidal carbon monoxide intoxication .

2018

In 2018, the songs "Ring Ding Dong" (August 27) and "Lucifer" (December 23) reached 100 million views. These were the first songs of theirs to reach this milestone.

On November 9, 2018, SM Entertainment announced that Onew would be drafted into Korean military service on December 10, 2018. This is the first of the group to begin his military service.

Image and art

SHINee is known for her fashion style, which is designed by Ha Sang-baek ( 하상 백 ). These include high-top sneakers, tight jeans and colorful sweaters. The style of this band has created a new fashion trend among high school students that has been dubbed the "SHINee Trend" by the media. This has led to the production of more clothing of this type.
