The A702 road ( English for road A702 ) is a trunk road in Scotland , designated in its northern part as the primary route , which connects Edinburgh with the A74 (M) motorway and ends in St John's Town of Dalry . The northern section forms the last part of the connection from London via the West Midlands and North West England via the M1 motorway , the M6 motorway , the A74 (M) that connects in Scotland and the A702 to Edinburgh.

The road begins in Edinburgh on West Tolcross as Ponton Street, then heads south and then crosses the four-lane A720 road (Edinburgh City bypass), becomes the Primary route at the junction, turns south-west, passes through Biggar , where the A72 road is crossed, and meets the A74 (M) motorway at Abington , which it follows to Elvanfoot. There she leaves, no longer a primary route, its route and crosses into the Nithsdale , where she meets the A78 road at Thornhill . The further course leads to the southwest via Moniaive to St John's Town of Dalry. There the A702 meets the A713 road and ends at the junction.

The section between Abington and Edinburgh formed part of European route 32 before 1975. The A702 is not included in the current European route network.
