ACDelco , often also called Delco for short , is a company in the automotive supplier industry . After the takeover by General Motors , ACDelco continues to exist as a brand name and part of the company within the vehicle components division of the group. As a dependent part of the group, ACDelco is not listed on the stock exchange. No information on production sites, sales, number of employees, etc. is published.

history

In 1899 Albert Champion , a French cyclist, moved to the USA. There he began to manufacture and sell spark plugs . The Champion Ignition Company , which he founded in 1904 , became the AC spark plug division , which was part of the Buick Motor Company in 1908 . In 1916 Buick became part of General United Motors, which then merged with Chevrolet to form General Motors.

In 1927, spark plugs produced by AC Delco were used on Charles Lindbergh's Atlantic flight, and in 1932 AC spark plugs were used on Amelia Earhart's solo Atlantic flight.

In 1974 the company renamed the AC Delco Division.

AC Delco in Europe

In 1991, the European Union examined the shock absorber market on the occasion of a merger between Mannesmann and Boge GmbH . In this report, AC Delco / de Carbon is named as the world's largest shock absorber manufacturer. The market share within the EU is given as 5%.
