Friedrich Völklein

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Friedrich Völklein (born June 12, 1880 in Lehmingen ; † July 7, 1960 in Nördlingen ) was a Bavarian homeland poet.

Life

Völklein was born on June 12, 1880 in Lehmingen, a small village in Nördlinger Ries ( Bavaria ), which is now part of Oettingen , as the eldest of four sons of a farming couple. After his training as a teacher, he initially taught on a temporary basis in Rieser communities and then for 40 years in Würzburg . It was bombed out during the air raid on Würzburg in March 1945. Then he made his way on foot to his brother Johann and his family in Lehmingen. After the Second World War he moved to Nördlingen, where he died on July 7, 1960. He is buried in the Emmerams cemetery in Nördlingen .

Völklein has made a name for himself as a poet and writer in his homeland, the Ries. It was his concern to let the homeland become a conscious experience, to get to know it, to love it, to work for it and to preserve it. In 1964 a street in Oettingen was named after Völklein, and since 1986 a memorial plaque on the house where he was born commemorates him.
