ACMAT trucks are all- terrain trucks of the French armed forces, which are also used as special versions by the fire services in the inaccessible areas of southern France. The vehicles are also used by friendly or French-influenced armed forces (e.g. in Africa). Developed in the 1960s by the "ALM" company ( Ateliers Legueu Meaux ), they are now manufactured by ACMAT (Ateliers de constructions mécaniques de l'Atlantique) in Saint-Nazaire . "ACMAT" is a subsidiary of Arquus , which has been part of Renault Trucks Defense since 2018 , which in turn is a subsidiary of Volvo .

description

In the French army they are under the generic term "VLRA" (Véhicule léger de reconnaissance et d'appui - light reconnaissance and support vehicle). There is a wide range of 75 versions, for example for the transport of people or material or as a support vehicle of various kinds. In 2014 the French army announced that the vehicles for 2018 would be retired. However, on December 31, 2017, 508 vehicles with an average age of 24 were still in use - in contrast to the 550 vehicles on December 31, 2016.

You can transport 15-foot containers, weapon systems or personnel. The average fuel consumption is 23 liters per 100 kilometers.

All models can be air-transported in the C-130 Hercules or the C-160 Transall .

The individual variants are distinguished by the abbreviation TPK or WPK, followed by the model number and possibly the version designation.
