Agencia Estatal de Meteorología

The Agencia Estatal de Meteorología , AEMET for short , is the national meteorological service of Spain . It has its institutional seat in Madrid and reports to the Ministry of the Environment. It has branches in the autonomous communities .

It was founded in 1887 as Instituto Central Meteorológico and has been renamed several times in its history. The organization last known as Instituto Nacional de Meteorología received its current name in 2008 and the organizational structure that is valid today.

The tasks of AEMET developing and delivering one meteorological services, the provision of meteorological and climatic information for the public and for public bodies responsible for civil protection , civil protection are responsible and national defense, and the maintenance of the infrastructure that is necessary for these tasks. To this end, it aims to offer commercial meteorological and climatic products and services that are in demand by public and private companies and individuals.

The Spanish Meteorological Service works closely with the international organizations WMO , EUMETSAT , EUMETNET , EZWM , ECOMET and GEO and is responsible for providing meteorological data for aviation as stipulated in the Agreement on International Civil Aviation .

The AEMET website offers content in several languages: in addition to Spanish, also English , French , Catalan , Galician , Valencian and Basque .
